Sega Game Gear - IPS Screen - Blue Sega's Classic Cartridge based handheld console. This one has had the works done to it, recapped, new IPS screen, new blue shell, and USB C charge socket.
FAULT - Occasionally doesn't power up?
Console only in Excellent, fully tested condition. Looks barely used, 10/10. Includes both battery covers. This console is pretty magnificent when you're playing it, but we found some odd issues when powering it up. When you turn it on there is a page of corruption on the screen, the temptation is to turn it off and re-insert the cartridge, but if you wait a few seconds, the corruption disappears and the game begins. However sometimes the corruption stays on the screen and the game doesn't begin - so you think it's a cartridge connection issue - but it isn't, because power down and restart and the game will begin without re-inserting it.
Unlike other modded Game Gears we have experienced, the power light flashes while you are playing, which makes me think it's possibly charging, and there is some kind of extra internal battery - and that when it is out of charge, that's when you get the boot issues. Either that or it's possessed, because it's an unusual sporadic issue which there seems to be no reason for. Hopefully an easy fix, because it does work!
