Sega Megadrive - Middle East Version Here's something for all you Sega collectors looking for something different. We recently imported these from Bahrain, and they are quite different to Western versions. Firstly, they are lighter and not as built of the same type of plastic as a European Mega Drive 2. The cartridge flaps are red, but the buttons are all in blue. The Mega Drive logo is different too, as is the lack of a power light. The controllers are small six button versions, but again with blue start buttons. The power supply is also credited as a Sega unit, and is 220v, so suitable for Europe, but has a Euro plug connection, so would need a shaver style adaptor in the UK. The console power end is not the yellow tipped version sold with UK Mega Drive 2s, it is the same as a standard Mega Drive 1 PSU, and yes, a UK Mega Drive 1 PSU works fine too. The manual is in English, credited 1994 Sega. The outer box is very similar to a Western Mega Drive 2 box.
This is a PAL console, but it is PAL B, so not the same as the PAL we have in the UK. This isn't a problem as there are two TV connection options included, firstly a standard yellow and white AV cable, making the console universal. The RF output is interesting, and consists of a separate RF box with additional cable. During testing we did manage to tune it in through the RF, but on the VHF2 band, which i'm not sure many TVs still have.
During our bench test we also encountered a region locked game, Toy Story, which wouldn't play as it said it was only designed for PAL regions. Other UK games played fine.
The outer box has some storage wear, 6.5/10, but the contents are Excellent, Includes two controllers. Possibly a counterfeit model, but certainly a curiosity for Sega fans.
